Mirabelle plum. I grew 200 mirabelle plum seedlings from one single tree in germany that was actually cut down now. I planted three rows 20 meters long with 3 meters between the rows. The first row on the left has 100 trees one every 15cm and the other two rows have 50 trees each at 30cm distance. The initial 50 trees of the first row were nibbled down by deer, that's why there is 100 in the first row cause i topped it back up. The difference in leaf colour and general growth is quite amazing. My idea is to have three mirabelle hedges that will be for plant breeding, selection, fruit production and experimentation of companion planting of shade loving plants under the mirabelle hedge.

Mirabelle plum seedlings after the winter. They survived frost that killed all my cherry seedlings. Now i continue to be interested in whether i will get good fruiting trees from this mass sowing. There is about two hundred of them. My plan is to plant them very close in rows and have the rows make hedges. Then by maintenance the place where new varieties were selected can be transformed into a productive fruit giving wall of plums. So far the idea anyway. When you take a closer look diversity can be seen in the seedlings appearances.

Prunus domestica subsp. syriaca. Mirabelle plum. I stratified hundreds of plum pits from a tree with good tasting fruit. I want to try and grow hundreds of seedlings to try and find one that performs better here . Mirabelle plum trees normally don't manage to set fruit where i live. All seeds came from one tree in germany, which might be less good than from a local tree here in brittany, and i don't know how much seedlings can vary genetically. It's an experiment to see if i can find better adapted varieties in mass sowings of mirabelle plum pits of one tree.
