Wichters plum. The wichters plum is a very rare plum tree that a dutch friend of mine gave me. This type of plum tree has been growing for a very long time in a small area of the netherlands. It seems to be a local type of mirabelle plum that makes small round green fruit that are said to be very tasty. Plums in general are, to me, very complicated plants with gages, damsons, plums and what have you. I never really understood how you distinguish them and there are many different varieties, but also different species that can also hybridize with eachother. I will plant this tree and hope that it will make fruit one day and then i will be able to decide for myself whether i like it or not. I kind of think that if it was that great it would have already spread elsewhere. Who knows, i hope to find out in a few years time.
Avocado. My mexicola avocado is looking so bad now that i am starting to doubt whether it will grow back. It could always in theory sprout back up from the roots though and that's what i am kind of hoping for. If that happens i will probably cut everything off except the new shoot. I have a second smaller plant outside that looks in much better shape. It is a fantastic seedling so that might be why. To me, which might make some people laugh, it looks really good right now compared to the mexicola. fantastic seedling that up to now survived the winter quite well. Notice the green petioles of the brown leaves. This tree if no further catastrophe happens will surely grow again. And now here comes the mexicola: this is not looking good... It will be interesting to see if it grows back from anywhere above ground, from the roots or not at all.
it was cultivated in the woods of friesland, a department in the north of holland,in general on sandy soil,it is a local variety of the yellow kroosjespruim, according to wikipedia prunus domestica subsp. syriaca.
